About the event

Based in Keswick, Cumbria, we will spend the weekend talking all things ultra running. This weekend is for those that are either running their first ultra this season or those that want to sharpen their skills and get a big back to back training weekend under their belt.

We will focus on both the technical, logistical and mental elements that make up successful ultra race preparation and excursion, including: running technique/form/efficiency, nutrition, planning, pacing, use of crew, use of specialist equipment like poles and much much more.

This weekend training camp will be delivered by Sam Hill, a fully qualified ultra running coach and international mountain leader and as well as focusing on coaching he we will also be sure to run on some of the best hill and trails in the Northern Lake District.

How it works:

Day 1: Friday

Meet Sam at Moot Hall in Keswick at 2pm. This is the start of many famous adventures, like the Bob Graham round and a fitting place to start our adventure. We will spend the afternoon on the trails focusing on setting up good ultra running form and talking about running efficiency. This will set us up for the rest of the weekend and give you some pointers to work on over the following days. We will be on the trails for about 2 hours.

There is the added option to go for a short 1hr night run at 9pm for those that would like to test their head lamps on the trail.

Day 2: Saturday

Long run day! We will meet at 9am and head into the hills for a full 6 hours of running and coaching in the hills. There will be an emphasis on pacing, race strategy, a running pole workshop and up/downhill technique masterclass.

Day 3: Sunday

Today we will head into more technical terrain and put everything learnt over the past 2 days into practice. The run will be between 4-5 hours depending on the group and conditions.

Travel and Accommodation:

Travel: The easiest is by car. Leave the M6 at Junction 40 and take the A66 to Keswick . Alternatively, you can take the train to Penrith then bus or taxi to Keswick.

Accommodation: In light of the current climate regarding Covid-19 I have taken the decision to not include group accommodation in the cost of this weekend. This gives you the freedom to stay in the type of accommodation that you would most prefer as well as not having to share with other unknown guests. It will also give you the option of either travelling to the event on the Friday night or the Saturday morning. I feel like this is the safest option for everyone involved.

Kit List:

Running shoes (something with a good tread designed for off-road running), waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, running pack with the ability to carry 1 litre of water plus spare layers, hat, gloves, spare warm layer, trail snacks, mobile phone (with a waterproof bag/cover … just in case!). For sunny forecasts, a cap and sunglasses might be handy.
